“Aaron Lake said starting a distillery is “kind of a big gamble at times.”
He and some other Tri-State entrepreneurs are hoping their gambles pay off. They are adding distilled spirits — moonshine, vodka and whiskey — to the regional craft beverage scene that already includes a number of wineries and breweries.
Some of those entrepreneurs said the laws and regulations for distilling spirits differ from those that govern making wine and brewing beer, and the rules also differ from state to state and sometimes from location.
And that doesn’t count the federal laws about distilling.
