Join us in welcoming John Wilcox to the Maryland spirits community!
John has a background in art, and earned his BFA in Sculpture and Painting at the University of Alaska Anchorage. His process philosophy for both art and distilling stems from Robert Rauschenberg: “You begin with the possibilities of the material.”
John is from a lot of places. During his career as distiller and distillery operations consultant, he has worked with distilleries in Alaska, South Carolina, Oregon, New Jersey, Texas, Louisiana, and Colorado. John started commercially distilling in 2011. He was the Head Distiller for Dark Corner Distillery in Greenville, SC, then Production Manager/Head Distiller for Rogue Ales and Spirits. Since then he has been consulting with startup distilleries around the country from 2015-2018 and is now excited to call Frederick, MD home!
He has also been an active member of ACSA, working to protect and advance the needs of our industry. It’s important to him to connect with other distillers, to share ideas, and to mature as distillers. He is passionate about giving back to the community, whether it’s fostering education opportunities peer to peer, building regional relationships, or being an open book for new distillers entering the industry and is really excited to become an active part of MDG.
