In 2017 Maryland created the More Jobs for Marylanders (MJFM) tax credit program which is specifically aimed at manufacturers.
The great news about the program is that it includes wineries, breweries and distilleries.
The best tax credit is reserved for new businesses locating in Allegany, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Dorchester, Prince George’s, Washington, Worcester and Somerset counties. Even existing businesses in these, and other, counties also get tax credits under MJFM.
To be defined as a new business, the entity needs to file the attached form with the Department of Commerce BEFORE they open. The submission of this form should be on any new business checklist along with getting a TTB permit and applying to the Comptroller for a Manufacturing license. The filing preserves the credit which can be applied for later as jobs are added.
The NAIC codes asked for on the form are as follows:
Breweries – 312120
Distilleries – 312140
Wineries – 312130
